October 2023 - Football Tournament

October 2023 - Football Tournament

Mr Deanus and Mr Gurteen took the selected children to a football tournament on the 19th October at Harrow School.  The tournament was made up of local schools and schools from outside the Borough.

1st Match against Elsley. The team played really well considering this was their first match together and won 6-1.  Goals from Ethan and Taylan and Zavi ensured that Roxeth got off to a great start.

2nd match was a 1-0 win due to the school not turning up.

3rd match against St Teresa’s This game was very close throughout with both teams having a number of chances.  The match finished with a 3-1 defeat although we only conceded the last two goals in the final minutes.

4th match was a 1-0 win due to the school not turning up. This meant that we went through to the quarter finals against St John’s.

Mr Deanus and Mr Gurteen felt this was the best team that we had seen in the tournament so we knew it was going to be hard match.  Despite this the match was really close.  Shaan made some fantastic saves to keep the score level for a long period of time.  Some great defending from Tamryn and Haneen kept the other team to half chances.  St John’s then scored a breakaway goal to make it 1-0.  It stayed this score right up until the last minute until Taylan scored a great goal to make it 1-1 at the very end of the game.  The match ended in a draw and went straight to penalties.

Unfortunately we lost the penalty shootout 3-1.

Mr Deanus and Mr Gurteen were extremely proud of how the children worked so hard for each other and always encouraged each other showing excellent team skills.  Well done to the following children Shaan, Tamryn, Aser, Zavi, Ethan, Haneen and Taylan - you did Roxeth proud!
