From September 2013 the DfE has amended the 2006 attendance regulations removing references to family holiday and extended leave as well as the statutory threshold of ten school days. The amendments make clear that Headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. Headteachers should determine the number of school days a child can be away from school if the leave is granted. We understand that there may be exceptional circumstances which may necessitate a longer absence for an agreed period, but this is also discretionary. The Headteacher will review the child’s attendance records in making this decision. If you wish to take your child away during term time, please make your request to the Headteacher by completing the appropriate form in advance so that this can be considered. Leave taken without permission will be recorded as unauthorised or may result in an Educational Penalty Notice being issued by the Local Authority.
