Y1 have had a busy final month and worked so hard

In Maths, the children developed their understanding of money, exploring the value of different coins and notes, how to recognise and use them, and how to make simple calculations involving money. This was an interesting challenge in a world where digital payments and tapping a card are becoming increasingly common.
This learning was linked closely with our PSHE focus on Economic Wellbeing, where the children thought about the value of saving money and making responsible choices. They explored different ways people may receive money, such as through gifts or rewards, and discussed how money can be kept safe. The children also learned about the role of banks and building societies.
In our Science topic ‘Exploring Science through stories, we read the Oak Tree by Julia Donaldson and inspired by this the children investigated the question ‘Does the taller the trees mean wider trunks?’ Using string and rulers they measured 3 trees and discovered from our sample that the tallest tree did have a wider trunk!
They have also been very creative practising their sewing skills in Design and technology and produced some amazing bunting.
It has been a wonderful year of hard work, resilience and growth. We are so proud the children and all they have achieved. We wish them the very best in year 2 where we know they will continue to shine.
