YEAR 6

The year 6 team continue to send you our thoughts and best wishes and we hope you and your families are keeping well. The reason there is no ‘week 8’ learning is due to half term. This might be a week where you want to spend focusing on your own interests or of course, we have provided you with lots of other websites to use which you can find on the Roxeth website.

WEEK 12 English

Monday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ji1KM1BbAyY   Follow the link to watch the short movie called ‘Ruckus’.  While watching, use page 3 of the workbook (which you will be using throughout this week) to pause at 29 secs, 1 min 58 secs and the end to answer the given questions.

Tuesday:  Use the internet to research well-known deserts around the world (Sahara, Gobi, Namib, Atacama etc).  As the main setting for ‘Ruckus’ is a desert, use pages 4-7 from the workbook to write a full setting description of the desert.

Wednesday:  Imagine that the brothers are using Whatsapp to message each other plans for their heist.  Use page 10 of the workbook to write out their Whatsapp conversation.

Thursday:  Think back to the work we did on dialogue earlier this year (for Magic Ink).  As the brothers do not speak during ‘Ruckus’, use P15-16 of the workbook to create dialogue and conversation between the brothers as they compete for the diamond.

Friday:  Plan and write a short story detailing what happens to the brothers and the diamond after they are released from hospital.  Write in the style of an adventure story and be creative!

WEEK 13 English

Monday:  To prepare you for the transition to Secondary, we will be completing activities based on a book called ‘Skellig’.  Look at the picture of the front cover and predict what you think the story is about.  Use the link below to read Skellig throughout the week.  Today you will need to read chapters 1-9 and answer the comprehension questions related to these chapters.

http://indbooks.in/mirror1/?page_id=43115  -  Use this link to read Skellig throughout the week.

Tuesday:  Read chapters 10-18 from Skellig.  Read through the descriptions in chapter 10 of the man Michael has found.  Find any quotes in this chapter which may give more information about the man.  Use the quotes and description to draw what you think the man might look like.

Wednesday:  Read chapters 19-22 from Skellig.  What do the different images mean from the dreams Michael is having?  Write down in bullet points what you learn about William Blake from these chapters.  How do Blake and his ideas fit into the story of Skellig?  After you have completed these questions, carry on reading until chapter 27.

Thursday:  Read chapters 28-36 from Skellig.  Go back to the comprehension questions sheet from Monday and complete the questions for chapters 28-36.

Friday:  Read chapters 37-46 from Skellig.  Use the Power Verbs sheet to list the verbs used by Skellig, Michael and Mina from these chapters.  Think about and answer the remaining questions on the sheet.
