Year 1 core learning activities to do at home
Lesson 1: We are learning about fractions. Take any fruit for example an apple and cut it into half. Draw what you see. Then take one half and cut it into half again. What do you notice and what do you see. How many parts of the apple? Now try the same with objects. First count the objects. Then half then and write it down. Then again take one half and half it again. Write that down. Try this with different numbers. What do you notice? Remember all parts have to be equal. Use the words half and quarter to describe what you see. Attempt Lesson 1 worksheet 1 and then Lesson 1 worksheet 2. Watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnFrOetuUKg.
Lesson 2: Look at the ppt for halves and quarters. We are learning about halving and quarters. Watch https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z3rbg82/articles/zq2yfrd. Try Lesson 2 worksheet 1 and Lesson 2 Worksheet 2. Then try lesson 2 Quarter worksheet.
Lesson 3: We are learning about quarter and halves. Now try Lesson 3 word problems. Remember that halving is the same as dividing by 2. Quarter means that there are 4 parts to a whole. Start with page 1 and then move on to page 2,3 and 4.

Lesson 1: Comprehension task- read a take home reader or a book from Oxford Owl online book. After reading answer the questions cards in the attachment.
Reading: Oxford Owl website has a free e-book library full of level readers that are like our take home readers from school. Join and read a different reader each day (
Lesson 2: Listen to the third chapter of Winnie the Pooh called ‘In Which Pooh and Piglet Go Hunting and Nearly Catch a Woozle’ You are going to begin to solve an important question, “What’s a Woozle?” A Woozle can only be seen in our imaginations and everyone’s Woozle may be different. Draw and describe your woozle using adjectives. Then use the adjectives to write sentences about your woozle.
Lesson 3: Watch the clip about Eeyore’s tail . Complete the wanted poster for Eeyore’s missing tail, using details to help find where it might be. Once you have finished the poster watch the next episode about Eeyore’s tail
Lesson 4: Write a story about your own teddy bear. Just like Winnie the Pooh make sure there is a problem in the story and how do you solve it. You may want to include yourself in the story just like Christopher Robin is in Winnie the Pooh. Draw a story map to help plan your story.
Lesson 5: Look over your story map to help remind you of your plan for your story. When you write your story remember to use:
- Full stops, capital letters and finger spaces
- Time connectives such as next, then, after, later on, suddenly
Brain Breaks- Follow the brain break timetable. Brain Breaks increase your child’s focus during learning tasks and the amount of physical activity they get every day.

Topic Week 14
Lesson 1: We are learning about Vincent Van Gogh. Look at Lesson 1 Van Gough information ppt. Observe his art. Talk to an adult about what you have observed.
Lesson 3: Look at Van Gough slides. Look at page 3 and 4. Take an A4 paper and draw/sketch the Sunflower. You can take some real sunflowers to observe their petals and stalk.
Lesson 4: Colour the sunflowers. Make sure you have chosen the correct colours and try to observe where are is shadow and where is the light falling on the flowers. Print the lesson 3 Van Gogh Sunflowers.
Lesson 5: Take an A4 paper and create your own Van Gogh painting. You can take an inspiration from any of his paintings.
