Reception core learning activities to do at home Weeks 3 & 4
Here are the main areas that we would like you to work on at home during the continued school closure.
Week 3
Physical Development
Activity 1: Letter Formation

Use the Letter Formation pdf provided to practise letter formation for letters: s, a, t, p, i.

Follow the directions shown on the letter formation worksheet.

Please only complete formation for the letters set for this week.
Communication and Language
Activity 1: Read and Re-tell

Read the story of Rosie’s Walk using the Rosie’s Walk pdf provided.

Talk about what you think will happen next

Through the week, learn the story.

Use the sequencing cards pdf provided and re-tell the story to someone in your family
English
Activity 1: Rosie’s Walk

Draw a picture of the fox or hen from Rosie’s Walk.

Write sentences or words to describe your character.

Try to include new words you have learned, to describe your character e.g. The fox is sly.
Activity 2: Tricky words

Practise reading and writing tricky words by completing the Tricky Words Activity Booklet provided.
Maths
Activity 1: Halving Shapes
-
Ask an adult to cut out the shapes on the Halving Shapes pdf.

Fold the shape in half and draw a line to show half.

Can you name the shapes?

Are they 2D or 3D shapes?
Activity 2: Coin Recognition

Cut out and match the coins to their values using the Coin Recognition pdf.

Say the coin names aloud e.g. 1 pence.
Week 4
Physical Development

Continue to learn and re-tell the story of Rosie’s Walk (use the Rosie’s Walk pdf and the Sequencing Cards pdf to help you)

Talk about what happens in the story and why.

Talk about how the different characters may feel.
English
Activity 1: Write the story of Rosie’s Walk.

Choose from Story Board 1, Story Board 2 or Story Board 3 depending on how much you wish to write. This activity should be carried out over the week.

Include interesting words in your writing e.g. around the shimmering pond.
-
Remember to include capital letters at the beginning of sentences, finger spaces between words and a full stop at the end of the sentence.

Activity 1: Halving Amounts

Use the Halving_PPT to understand halving amounts.

Practise working out half of the sweets on the Halving_PPT

Complete the Halving Numbers pdf. Choose the correct sheet depending on how much support you need.
Activity 2: Coin Values

Order the coins from the smallest to highest value using the Ordering Coins pdf.

Say the coin names aloud e.g. 1 pence.

SUPPORT FOR PARENTS
Salt Dough Recipe:
Ingredients:
½ cup salt
2 cups of flour
¾ cup of water
Method:
1. In a large bowl mix salt and flour together.
2. Gradually stir in water. Mix well until it forms a doughy consistency.
3. Turn the dough onto the bench and knead with your hands until smooth and combined.
4. Make your creations using the salt dough.
