Here are the main areas that Year 1 would like you to work on at home if the school is closed due to the Coronavirus.

 

Week 1

English-

  • Watch the story ‘The Wrong Book’ by Nick Bland… and re-tell the story in your own words. Remember to retell the main ideas such as who the main character is, where the setting is and what happens in the beginning, middle and end of the story.

  • Making connections to the story. Write down the connections you have made whilst listening to the story. Start the sentences with ‘I have made the connection to…..’ and then explain your connection. For example: I have made the connection to the monsters in the book. It reminds me about the movie Monster Inc and a book I have read ‘Monsters Love Underpants.

  • Describe and draw the main character Nicholas Ickle. Use as many adjectives as possible to describe Nicholas’ appearance, personality, feelings and actions. 

  • Nouns, Verbs and Adjectives Sort. Read the words and write them into the correct column.

 

Phonics

  • Practise “ow” grapheme. Write words and use them in sentences.

  • Practise “oe” grapheme. Write words and use them in sentences.

  • Practise “air” grapheme. Watch Geraldine the Giraffe ( YouTube)

  • Practise tricky words: could, should, would, asked and people.

 

Maths-

  • Time: make a list of activities that will take seconds, minutes, hours, weeks or months to do. E.g. sneezing – seconds, washing hands – minutes and school holidays – weeks.

  • Look at positional language e.g. under, over, next to, top of, besides.

  • Clockwise, anticlockwise, quarter and half turns. Practise using shapes or objects.

  • Recognise chronological events of the day e.g. afternoon, morning, evening, later. Write a diary of the activities one would do in the morning e.g. I brush my teeth in the morning.

 

 

Week 2

English-

  • Read ‘The story of the Easter Bunny’ … and re-tell the story in your own words. Remember to retell the main ideas such as who the main character is, where the setting is and what happens in the beginning, middle and end of the story.

  • Design your own Easter egg. Write a procedure explaining the steps you took in creating your egg. Remember to use the time connectives such as First, Secondly, Next, Last

  • Write a story about if you were the Easter Bunny.

Remember to use:

- full stops, capital letters and finger spaces

             -  Time connectives such as next, then, after, later on, suddenly

  • Syllables Sort. Read the words and write them into the correct column.

 

Phonics

  • Practise all the previous graphemes.

  • Practise “ear” grapheme. Write words and use them in sentences.

  • Practise “air” grapheme. Watch Geraldine the Giraffe ( YouTube)

  • Practise tricky words: Mr, like, said, you, because and were.

 

Maths

  • Practise number bonds of 10 and 20. E.g. 12+8= 20

  • Add numbers up to 100. E.g. 25+12=37. Use 100 square.

  • Take away numbers up to 100. E.g. 45+12=33. Use 100 square.

  • Look at 2D and 3D shapes. Look at their properties. Use language e.g. vertices, sides, corners and faces.
